sumbállō,

2022-2023, digital prints from paper collage.

Through investigating visual histories in art, human society and spirituality, sumbállō the Ancient Greek meaning for symbol (“I throw together”) is expressed and represented in collage as a methodology.

The collage process, much like the ancient Greek word, uses a frenetic combination of selected idea’s of scientific, sculptural and the mystic forms to throw together and generate a new series of symbols. Seeking inclusions from early homosapien to bronze age humans, into the renaissance man and science of today. McGarry’s collage’s include these links to the past in a present metaphysical space. By generating imagery of spiritual beyond Newtonian science and psychology, these works made in meditative states beckon this past/presence into a Quantum age.
