Safe Space 2024

‘Safe space’ is an installation work in the window gallery for a 6 month professional development residency “converge” for Lismore city council.

this work explores ideas of safe spaces, security in housing, food and basic necessities of life. it also strongly speaks to surveillance and having to soften ourselves in an overly surveilled world. The nana blankets soften a mega phone, a hammer and hot water bottle. the torch is face down and an empty camp chair and tent occupy this space.

the space blanket both reflects this and has a motif of bricks, whilst the squares in the back wall repeat the pattern. the fake grass could be taken as the grass is always greener or to the false sense of security of the world we currently live in.

Vibrascopic 2023

'Vibrascopic' is a 3m long 3D kaleidoscope installation that opens a portal to a moving visual prism - using various naturally occurring waves of energy filmed through science experiments of light, colour, frequency, and sound.

This work was presented for the UN[contained] Festival 2023 for Georges River City Council
Special thanks to Abstract Plastics for help with part fabrication and HVG Graphics Media for the specialty projector film.

A Folded Reality 2021

A Folded Reality makes apparent the invisible frameworks that direct limit and construct our perception

These viewing devices mirrors and glass act as magic boxes that fragment spaces and the senses

Reminding us perception is not the same for everyone

Reflecting divergent thinking they play with density and translucency tessellating prismatic colours and generating optical sleights of hand fracturing the illusion of empirical reality

The kaleidoscopes and novelty illusions show how the trick is done

And the trick itself
